- I remembered that this blog existed, in the first place
- I remembered my credentials
- To be more specific, I was surprised by the amount of foresight I had previously linking said credentials to my gmail login
- The last post here was as late as 2009
- Annoyingly, it means it hasn't actually been a decade since the last post, which would have been very satisfying (even if also completely meaningless)
- The layout of the composition page is very friendly, but also very boring
Anyway down to business: why are we bringing this place back? Short version: I'd like to get back into cooking and something I read somewhere asserted that keeping a log of things together with announcing your intentions publicly improve accountability and increase the likelihood you will stick to the plan.
For context, the only meals I have prepared for myself over the last three and a half years are canned soup, instant ramen, or reheated chinese takeout based meals. This will be an interesting change of pace, to say the least. As such, I'm keen to achieve these objectives as part of this exercise:
- Acquire and improve food preparation skills
- Collect a library of recipes that span cuisine groups
- Develop intuition of how to make things delicious
- Explore the economics of food prep
To get us started, here's a spreadsheet (I love spreadsheets)! We'll use it for a bunch of things, but for now, we'll keep track of tangible investments, intangibles (initially just a log of time spent), and inventory.
We'll follow this up with two more posts for day 1, first to discuss set up and then, onto today's creation!
Cheers,
Hanchen
